The All England Club announced wild cards for The Championships 2009 with teenager Laura Robson given the opportunity to play in her first senior Grand Slam.
With Anne Keothavong already directly in the event, a total of six women will play in the main draw. Alongside Robson, Mel South, Katie O'Brien, Elena Baltacha and Georgie Stoop have all been awarded a wild card with American Alexa Glatch and Portuguese teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito also guaranteed a place in the main draw. Naomi Cavaday, Naomi Broady, and Jade Curtis will play in the qualifying event.
In the men's draw, Alex Bogdanovic, Dan Evans, Josh Goodall and James Ward have been allocated wild cards into main draw with Richard Bloomfield, Dan Cox, Chris Eaton and Alex Slabinsky all given a chance to come through qualifying.
Bulgarian teenager Grigor Dimitrov and Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero have also been given a chance to play in the main draw at SW19.
Qualifying for The Championships, Wimbledon runs from 15th-18th June and is held at the Bank of England Sports Club at Roehampton. The Championships begins on Monday 22nd June. |
