New Malden's Melanie South was today handed an enticing draw for her French Open debut.
The 23-year-old, Britain's third-ranked woman, plays an as-yet unnamed qualifier in round one, and is not due to meet a top-10 seed until the round of 16.
Should she make it that far, she is likely to come up against world number one Dinara Safina.
She faired much better than Britain's leading woman Anne Keothavong, who comes up against the top-seeded Russian in the first round.
South has seen her world ranking slip from 99 to 124 in the past few months while she underwent a gruelling fitness regime she hopes will spearhead a charge into the top 50.
